Forthcoming Radio Bailrigg Alumni events...
PLEASE CONFIRM YOUR ATTENDANCE! If you have previously stated your intention to attend the reunion at the end of this month, I now need definite confirmation that you will be attending, so that I can book the venues, by completing and returning two forms. Where possible, please save these form with your name as the filename and email them to me as attachments - otherwise I'll lose track of who's said what! If you are attending the reunion I need you to complete Form A and return it to me (via email) as soon as possible. This will tell me which events you wish to be involved in over the weekend. If you are attending the main reunion dinner at Marco's on the Saturday night, I also need you to complete Form B. This is the menu options for Marco's and I need to give the restaurant a list of everyone's choices on Monday 16th January. I cannot reserve you a place at the dinner until I have received your menu options (again, via email). If you have any special requirements for food, please let me know and I will see what can be arranged. There are now more than 50 people on my list of people hoping to come to Lancaster for the reunion, so I would appreciate all forms back as soon as possible. Completing the spreadsheet makes my life easier, but if for any reason you can't read an Excel spreadsheet there is now a version of the menu in rich text format, which should be viewable on most text platforms. Click here for this, then email me with your choices. If you can no longer attend it's not a problem, just let me know. Also, if you know someone who has so far not said they are coming but may be interested in doing so, please pass this information on to them and get them to contact me ASAP. Many thanks and I hope to see many of you on the 20th-22nd!
There are more than 50 people who have registered an interest in attending
the reunion, so to clear up some confusion, the schedule for the weekend
is now as follows: Friday evening: Sunday lunchtime:
If you would like to attend but have not already contacted me directly, please do so using the email address on the contact page. That way I will be email you the menu options for the dinner, and any other important information regarding the reunion.
Following feedback from those attending the reunion, I have been investigating alternative (cheaper) venues for the 'Formal Dinner' on the Saturday night. Options are severely limited by the potential number of people attending, but I have been looking at two possible options which are both affordable and may be able to house a group of our size - The Sultan of Lancaster (a curry house) and Marco's (an Italian). The current suggestion is to opt for Marco's as some people are not keen on a tandoori buffet, and Marco's is also licenced, so attendees will be able to wash their dinner down with a few glasses of wine if they so desire. They would be offering their full menu (around 50 different options), with starters and desserts from £3-6 and main courses from £6-16. This means there is plenty of choice, and a meal to suit most budgets. The provisional booking I made at the Lancaster House Hotel expires early next week (21st November), so if you are hoping to come to the reunion dinner, please let me know your opinions on this new suggestion as soon as you can. Here or here.
I've now had responses from nearly 30 people to say they are looking
to attend the reunion in January, and following discussions about possible
activities, the schedule for the weekend (subject to confirmation) is
currently looking like this: Friday evening: Sunday lunchtime: I've provisionally booked the Lancaster House Hotel for the dinner on
The pub quiz will be held at a venue to be arranged, either on campus or in town. In case a venue needs to be hired, and so that prizes can be arranged for the winning teams, the cost to enter the quiz will be £3. A quiz is great way for those who don't know many people to meet some new faces, and to help break the ice a little on the first night, teams will be drawn from a hat. From my memory, the cost of the whole weekend in 2001 was £35, so this time it may even be a little cheaper. I will be posting a booking form online soon. Please let me know, via email or on the forum, if you are looking to attend.
On 6th January 2006, Bailrigg FM celebrates 10 years of permanent FM presence, having first acquired their LPFM licence back in 1996. Next year will also see the 35th Anniversary of student radio at Lancaster University. To celebrate both these occasions we are looking to hold another reunion, similar in size and style to the highly successful weekend of celebrations for the station's 30th anniversary, which took place in Lancaster in March 2001. As the official FM anniversary date falls during the University vacation, the reunion will be held on the weekend of 20th-22nd January 2006. Use the menu on the right to see who's already signed up.
The event which took place in March 2001 attracted former members from every decade of radio at Lancaster University, as well as a healthy crop of current Bailrigg FM members. An introductory wine and cheese evening on the Friday was followed on the Saturday by a series of on-air slots for former DJs to show they haven't lost their touch, before a formal 3-course dinner at the Lancaster House Hotel. For those who didn't need the whole of Sunday to recover, there was then the chance for former members to tour the University and town to see what had changed in the preceding years. Also, bear in mind that this may be your last opportunity to come and
(re)visit Radio Bailrigg in the studios she has inhabited for the last
30 years as plans are afoot, within the University, to move us into a
new studio complex during 2006.
Obviously, this latest reunion can only go ahead if a sufficient number of former members attend, so don't forget to register your interest, either by email or by leaving a post on our new forums. If you have any suggestions for what you would like to see happen at this reunion then let us know that too. As more details of the reunion are arranged, they will appear here, so please check back regularly to find out what has been planned so far. |
