How you can help Radio Bailrigg Alumni...

> The latest request for information

Posted: 6th November 2005

In order to open up a new section on this website, I'm now looking for information about the history of the Radio Bailrigg studios. Initially where they were before they moved to Fylde College, but also their history after they moved to their current position.

From the photos we have available it is possible to see that desks have been moved, doors have been blocked up, and a room has been added. I can also tell you that the walls of the office and the studios have been at least 6 or 7 different colours in the past (I know this following a week of hard work with several buckets of paint stripper and a very sharp blade).

So if you have any photos of the studios or the office and you can date the picture to a particular year (and preferably which month/term) then please contact me - I'm aiming to chart the changes in the station with a photo album.

Since this is a new website, it is only right that we start at the beginning. This article has been floating around on the Bailrigg FM website for several years as the definitive history of the beginnings of student radio at Lancaster University, but it is very incomplete.

So that we can piece together the first 5 years, let us know if you were involved in the early days at Radio Bailrigg and can shed any more light on the first few years of URB, the location and set up of the temporary studios, how the station went about acquiring the new studio/office space, and the type of programming that was broadcast.

Copies of any press clippings or photographs from the period would also be gratefully received, and posted on the website for all to admire.

If you notice any problems with the website whilst surfing, please let me know, either via the appropriate section on the forum or via email. Be nice though, I'm doing this in my spare time and I'm learning every step along the way!
