Previous Radio Bailrigg Alumni events...
This account of events is patchy. If you can add anything to the information below then please let us know via email or on the forum. As far as records show, the reunion which took place in Lancaster to celebrate the 30th anniversary of student radio at Lancaster University, was the first event of its kind for the station and her alumni. Held over the weekend of 23rd-25th March 2001, the alumni arrived in town at the tail-end of Bailrigg FM's mammoth Comic Relief broadcast, and amid a flurry of fund-raising activity. The event attracted more than 30 former members, along with many of the more active current members, so it was an opportunity for people to meet up with old friends who may have been out of touch for years, and meet new ones amongst three decades of like-minded student radio enthusiasts. It was a memorable weekend for all involved. Friday evening's entertainment was an introductory wine and cheese evening, held in Fylde SCR. Current station members very kindly agreed to give-up their shows on the Saturday, to make way for a selection of on-air slots for former DJs. This gave those alumni who braved the airwaves the chance to show that they haven't lost their touch, even if they had done more show prep for this reunion show than they did for any show they'd ever done on Radio Bailrigg before! Whilst all this was going on, other former members were able to listen to the on-air shows, either in the Bailrigg office or in Fylde SCR.
Saturday evening saw a formal 3-course dinner at the Lancaster House Hotel, followed by a disco provided by the current Bailrigg FM team. Whilst the music played was appropriate to the party atmosphere, it didn't take long for people to drift off to corners of the hotel or campus; preferring to take the opportunity to talk to both long-lost friends and new acquaintances, rather than dance the night away. For those who didn't need the whole of Sunday to recover, there was then the chance for former members to tour the University and town to see what had changed in the preceding years.
